Okkos spa

  • Originaltitel: Wakaokami Wa Shogakusei

Born in 1962. Kosaka starts his career as an animator at Oh! Productions. After leaving the company on 1986, he has worked on many titles as the animation director and key animator for Studio Ghibli, such as Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind to name a few. He has also worked on many MADHOUSE productions, such as Yawara! and Master Keaton among others. He made his directorial debut with Nasu: Summer in Andalusia which was premiered at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight in 2003. In 2014, Kosaka was awarded as Best Animator for Director Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises at Tokyo Anime Award Festival.

I wanted to depict how a girl, in the susceptible and self-conscious age, learns and grows up that there is something you can and cannot manage by yourself by making her face the collectiveness of a society and acceptance of the others in a small hot spring town called Hananoyu. The self-centered behaviors of individuals and nations in these days create conflicts here and there; however, one of the businesses that cannot survive with such attitudes is the hospitality industry. Customer satisfaction turns round and becomes the benefit of business, but before that, dedications to others could bring out the best strength out of people, and I think that is the great charm and value of human beings. I hope children who grow up to adults and create a society watch the film and think about it together.
