Petra Bauer is one of Sweden’s leading artists and a Professor in Fine Art with an
Emphasis on the Moving Image, at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Bauer’s
work explores how aesthetics can be used to challenge contemporary social and political events and processes. Much of her recent work focuses on how women have collectively self-organised, within and beyond art, with an aim to change political and social structures as well as everyday life

In 2017 #metoo started to spread throughout societies in the world. Women from different groups testified to sexual harassment at their work, at home, and in society at large. But the movement did not only reveal sexist acts but it also demanded that society take women's experiences and experiences seriously. SCOT-PEP is fighting both to change the simplified representations and political conditions. Their struggle encompasses both an aesthetic and political fight, which are closely linked. By changing the image, the political requirements can be heard, but also the opposite; by making the political demands visible, the image of sex workers can change. As in Jeanne Dielman, it is about simultaneously visualising agents and oppression, expressed in one and the same body, and to articulate how the struggles can advance.
