Christine Franz is a Berlin-based music journalist and director. She is working as a music editor and producer/director for French-German public TV network ARTE and its weekly pop culture programme Tracks – one of Europe’s longest running TV music programmes. Christine has worked as a trainee for MTV networks, as a freelance writer for Germany’s biggest music magazine Intro and volunteered at Glastonbury festival for 10 years. Bunch of Kunst is Christine’s first feature film.

You could really tell it was the band that everyone had been waiting for, the band that perfectly summed up what everybody was feeling. The frustrations about dead-end jobs, lack of options, politics, celebrity culture and everyday life. The fact that their lyrics used all those Nottingham and East Midlands reference points made the band even more appealing to me as I spent several years at university in Birmingham, UK – just an hour away from the band’s hometown Nottingham. One night in May 2014 Sleaford Mods played a tiny Berlin underground squat venue. The place was packed, sweat was dripping from the ceiling, there were 200 people queuing outside still waiting to get in. After that gig I decided to meet the band again in Nottingham for their first ever TV interview. They showed us the places that inspired their songs and we joined them for a living room recording session. It was that night, that the idea for the film was born.
