During the thirties and forties, both the government as well as the royal house in Stockholm were keen on keeping Sweden neutral and outside the War. But this balancing act was disturbed by one man on Sweden’s west coast. In the daily newspaper “Göteborgs Handels- och Sjöfartstidning,” Torgny Segerstedt wrote one scathing article after the other against Hitler and Nazism. In enthralling black-and-white pictures, Jan Troell portrays the courageous editor-in-chief’s struggle, in parallel with his complicated relationships with three women at the same time. With nuanced and beautiful portraits, Jesper Christensen and Pernilla August lead a wonderful ensemble including among others Ulla Skoog, Lennart Hjulström, and Björn Granath.
