When Lo’s parents argue behind the closed door, it feels like a storm raging at home. The winds howl, and the ice creaks until the cold suddenly melts into the warmth of an embrace, and she feels safe again. Alva van Niekerk delivers an intimate and tactile portrayal of being small and watching your safe world begin to change.
