The compelling story of a Russian teacher whose work is completely transformed after the invasion of Ukraine offers a unique insight into Russia’s propaganda machine.

Pasha is a well-liked teacher in a small Russian town. He enjoys his job, but everything changes when Russia launches its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He is forced to organize and film new activities in line with the wartime curriculum. Teachers are required to recite texts praising Russia’s greatness and military strength, young children are made to patrol as soldiers, and Pasha’s former students are sent to the front lines. With remarkable courage and quiet defiance, Pasha begins documenting everyday life inside and outside the school. The result is a powerful and rare portrayal of how war and the regime shape contemporary Russian society – and the story of one man’s extraordinary decision to risk everything to stay true to his values.
