In her tender debut film, Monica Sorelle seamlessly and reverently narrates the story of an elderly Haitian couple in a gentrified Miami
Xavier is an elderly Haitian man with a big heart. He works demolishing old houses while simultaneously dreaming of buying a new one for his wife, Esperance. The couple lives in Little Haiti in Miami and is involved in the Haitian community. Xavier has high expectations for his son, Junior, who dropped out of college and moved back home but makes fun of his background on stand-up performances. It's ironic that Xavier is part of the destruction of his own community to survive in an increasingly changing area. Yet, there's strength in his unassuming demeanor and in his pursuit of a better life, depicetd in this gentle and nuanced character study that gets close.
