Memory
Buy ticketsJessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard deliver outstanding performances in a deeply moving memory drama set in Brooklyn, where two wounded souls with a shared past reunite.
Michel Franco has gained recognition for chilling unpleasant films such as Chronic, New Order, and Sundown. Memory also carries a hefty dose of darkness but more so offers a warm and life-affirming portrayal of love. Sylvia, with a history of abuse and addiction, lives a structured life where nothing but her daughter, her job at a nursing home, and AA meetings fit in. However, she reluctantly attends a school reunion, which immediately leads to discomfort. The peculiar figure Saul behaves strangely, and when Sylvia leaves, he follows her all the way home. This marks the beginning of a meeting that will profoundly shake them both in this masterful drama about the labyrinths of memory. Sarsgaard won the acting award at the Venice Film Festival for his performance.
