Légua
Buy ticketsA quietly hypnotic and poetic gem about three generations of women in a small Portuguese village, where the household staff continues to meticulously care for the house despite the owners having long ceased to care.
Légua is a small village in northern Portugal. Here, the housekeeper Emilia continues to tend to the old mansion Casa da Botica, even though the owner's family has lost interest and stopped coming up from Lisbon. Her dedication remains, but Emilia is old and no longer has the strength she once did, becoming increasingly dependent on her younger friend Ana's help. However, when Ana's daughter Mónica, the first in the family to have the opportunity to attend university, comes to visit, she begins to question the two older women's self-sacrificing life choices. Filipa Reis and Joa~o Miller Guerra (Djon África GFF 2019) deliver a tender and deeply personal drama in harmony with nature, the seasons, and the passage of life. A true gem, as mentioned.
