Fire of Wind
Buy ticketsA runaway bull forces grape pickers into the trees in a visually striking historical reflection set in the Portuguese countryside.
In Alentejo, southern Portugal, it’s harvest time when the workers are suddenly warned of a bull on the loose, forcing them to seek refuge in the trees. Time passes, day turns to night, and among the branches, stories unfold—memories of resistance and oppression intertwine with fears for the future, as the landscape’s past merges with the present and the dreams of the night become reality. Director Marta Mateus, herself raised in Alentejo, draws inspiration from the region’s folklore and legends in her feature debut. The result is a challenging, critically acclaimed film that evokes comparisons to Portuguese filmmakers like Margarida Cordeiro and António Reis, firmly situating itself within the country’s rich cinematic tradition.
