Fabian – Going to the Dogs
Buy ticketsThree magnificent hours of “Bildningsroman” with Cabaret and Fassbinder vibes, about the resigned idealist Fabian who hangs out at bars and brothels in Berlin in 1931.
The Weimar Republic’s days are numbered and the disillusioned war veteran and aspiring author Jakob Fabian writes cigarette advertisements during daytime, and spends nighttime in Berlin’s nightlife together with his wealthy friend Labude. When he meets Cornelia, he temporarily puts his pessimism aside and chooses love. But as her acting career takes off with the help of a dubious promoter, at the same time as Fabian loses his job, his thoughts begin to tread in dark routes once again. The skilled Dominic Graf delivers a vital and unrestrained adaptation of Erich Kästner’s classic novel, and a first-class film experience about an exciting transitional period in Germany’s history.
