EO
Buy ticketsCannes-awarded, virtuously shot, grandiose humanistic epic about the donkey Eo’s fortunes and adventures. Bresson-inspired but still completely its own by the legendary Polish auteur Skolimowski.
Our world is an incredibly enigmatic place when seen from a donkey’s perspective. Eo suddenly gets the chance to leave the circus and step out into freedom, which becomes the start of a rowdy adventure dotted with both kind and cruel people, soaring joy, and abysmal despair. Just as in Bresson’s donkey film Balthazar (1966), the animal’s innocence stands in stark contrast to humanity’s asinine ways. Our shared need of what is usually called humaneness has perhaps never shown itself more clearly. The Polish master-director Skolimowski demonstrates, at the age of 84, an exceptional vitality, playfulness, and artistic acuity.
