Corsage
Buy ticketsVicky Krieps is brilliant in this incredibly charming Cannes-awarded costume gem about Elisabeth of Austria whose corset only gets tighter as she fills into her forties.
Empress Elisabeth is widely known for her beauty and extravagance, but once she turns forty in 1877, she is expected to accept a more withdrawn role. But “Sisi” is set on maintaining her image and pulls her corset tighter and tighter. Her marriage with Franz Joseph chafes as well. She begins defying him and going for what has been lost since the carefree days of her youth. Marie Kreutzer’s delicate and playful costume drama has anachronistic parallels to Coppola’s Marie Antoinette and Larrain’s Lady Di portrait Spencer, but it is also very much its own. Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread, Bergman Island) received a well-deserved award at Cannes for her daring role interpretation.
* The screening on February 3 is followed by a Directors Talk, a longer conversation with Marie Kreuzer.
