A released prisoner cleans up his hometown of stray dogs before the Olympics, in this strikingly beautiful, Cannes-winning Wild East, set in a miserable environment at the edge of the Gobi Desert.

Lang has served his prison sentence and is on his way home. His father is now dying in the demolished hometown that was once known for its booming oil industry, where nothing is the same, except possibly the shabby tiger at the zoo. Lang needs money, and a reward has been offered to anyone who can capture the black greyhound, the worst of the city's stray dogs, which have taken over the streets. Instead, Lang and the greyhound become friends. Together, they face both new and old enemies, all while a solar eclipse approaches, just in time for the Beijing Olympics. Stunning visuals, a guest appearance by Jia Zhangke, and a standout performance by Eddie Peng as Lang earned the film the top prize in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes.
