Bird
Buy ticketsDad rock, sweaty toads, and a kilt-wearing oddball named Bird take center stage as Andrea Arnold marries British kitchen-sink drama with magical realism.
Twelve-year-old Bailey lives with her hyperactive dad, her brother, and other drifters in a squat in Kent. She’s smart, bored, and lonely despite the constant flow of people and often escapes to the fields on the outskirts of town. During one of her outings, she meets Bird (brilliantly portrayed by Franz Rogowski), who turns out to be even stranger than he first appears. Andrea Arnold, who won Göteborg Film Festival’s inaugural Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award in 2007 with her debut Red Road and is back with her first feature film since American Honey (2016), surprises with a bold mix of her signature social realism, seen in works like Fish Tank, and an ample dose of magic and fantasy.
