Amanda
Buy ticketsOdd female friendship in Miranda July-scented Italian indie about unlikely loner who seeks out old best friend in desperate search for friendship.
It can be difficult to revive a friendship that has waned. Especially if the friendship in question never lasted beyond babyhood. But after the wealthy teenage girl Amanda fails to find friends at rave parties, in video chats, and among the odd figures at the Turin cinema, she turns to Rebecca. But how much do they have in common? Benedetta Porcaroli is brilliant in the moody title role, and as a screenwriter with bright colors and fun dialogue, director Carolina Cavalli engages in discourse with Wes Anderson and Athina Rachel Tsangari. Amanda is both a stylized and candid depiction of youthful passivity and an unconventional female friendship.
