Nini Bull Robsahm’s remake of Kåre Bergström’s cult, ’50s thriller Lake of the Dead is this year’s creepiest cabin-set horror film.

It’s summer and Lillian and her friends travel to a cabin by a lake deep in the Norwegian forest. Lillian’s twin brother died just one year before and the friends return to say goodbye, but for Lillian’s part it is perhaps a matter of comprehending the mysterious conditions around her brother’s death. Nini Bull Robsahm has collaborated with film legends with experience ranging from The Excorcist and Army of Darkness – Evil Dead III in a meticulous cult film embodiment. It doesn’t take long before the lonely cabin in the woods becomes the site of a refreshing mix of nerve-racking tension, Norwegian folklore, true nightmares, sub-aquatic horror and gooey body horror.
