Director's Talk: Kamal Aljafari

Director's Talk: Kamal Aljafari

Kamal Aljafari has, over two decades, developed a unique body of work shaped by a unique point of a view. His films take place somewhere between documentary and experimental essay film, revolving around Palestinian history, displacement and resistance. By reclaiming and reworking archival footage that has been censored, forgotten or lost - as in A Fidai Film (2024) - he creates an alternative cinematic memory. His new film With Hasan in Gaza, which has won multiple awards since its premiere in Locarno, is yet another example of the director’s uncompromising and deeply personal cinematic language.
