What Happened? FLM Takes a Deep Dive into the 2000s from a Cinematic Perspective

2007 was not only the year the iPhone was invented—additionally it was the year the film magazine FLM was founded. As 2025 draws to a close, the double issue Scener ur ett kvartssekel ("Scenes from a Quarter Century") is released, in which filmmakers and writers look back on what has been seen, said, and done over the past 25 years. But how do you sum up film history? Why is the most problematic film ever made also the most progressive? David Dencik, slow cinema, Nollywood, and Netflix - what really happened? And what is the role of film criticism? FLM reflects on the first 25 years of the 21st century.

Do we long for the beginning of the millennium? Probably not. But do we wonder how we ended up here? Absolutely.

Participants: Olga Ruin and Rebecca González León, Editors in Chief of FLM; Oscar Westerholm, film and literary critic; and Sanjin Pejković, culture critic.
