Good old chaps, salty chicks, local team Blåvitt, Liseberg, and charming Lasse Dahlquist hits in classic Göteborg comedy with a sense of adventure that became a popular success in its time.

Karl is engaged to Ada and the sailor Gustaf is courting Elsa. Though he was ready to stay ashore for her sake, a conflict arises when the rich but shady director Smith shows up. The intrigue itself might not be the most advanced out there, but what does it matter? Vi Masthuggspojkar was shot during the Second World War and despite that there were then many protected environments not to be caught on film, we get to see the harbour, Götaplatsen, Liseberg, Masthugget, and Långedrag. Åke Söderblom and Emy Hagman play the lively roles of Kålle & Ada. And the legendary Lasse Dahlquist makes his breakthrough as an actor as a jealous, musically talented, quick-footed sailor who saves the game at Ullevi in this energetic comedy from the 1940s that ends with a police chase and bang-bang at sea. The film has been digitally restored by the Swedish Film Institute and will be screened in collaboration with Cinemateket.

* The screening on January 30 is a Film Salon with the theme The Image of Göteborg. After the film and a pause with sparkling wine, the author of the monumental Göteborg novel “Collected Works,” Lydia Sandgren will meet with the architectural writer Mark Isitt and the director, artistic manager of Gothenburgo and chairman of Öppna kanalen Göteborg Roozbeh Behtaji in a dialogue about what Göteborg has been and is – and what the city will become. (In Swedish.)

During the evening, the filmmaker Jonas Myrstrand shows his VR film GBG Minnesvarv about the city's shipyard era and the crane operator Kerstin in Aftonstjärnan's café.
