Genka has 20 years of experience as an investigative journalist. Her car has been set on fire and she has received death threats, yet she stubbornly continues digging to prove how dangerous disinformation is to society. Ivan has entered politics and attracts major attention for the conservative, right-wing populist conspiracy theories he spreads on social media. Bulgarian-Finnish filmmaker Hristov depicts how fake news and troll factories reach all the way into the European Parliament, but also discovers “elves” working to counter the organized online trolls.

DocBar: Conspiracies and Troll Factories
Following the screening on January 28, a bar talk will take place from 7:45–8:15 pm in the Ship’s Restaurant. We will discuss the mechanisms behind conspiracy theories and take a closer look at how troll factories are staffed and controlled, together with the film’s director Tonislav Hristov and Andreas Jahrenborn Önnerfors, historian of ideas at Linnaeus University and project manager at Faktajouren, Fojo. DocBar is part of Focus Truth, presented in collaboration with the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. Free admission to the talk; a ticket to the film screening is required.
