A clinically striking and scathing Romanian tragedy in true Mungiu style, set in an isolated Danube Delta community where homophobia and repression trump humanity.

When 17-year-old Adi is brutally beaten by the ruthless sons of a local loan shark, it’s not a reminder of his father’s debt – it’s a hate crime sparked by Adi being seen kissing another man. Blinded by shame and prejudice, his parents call in a priest to exorcise the “demons” from their son. Meanwhile, the police investigation is mired in absurd bureaucracy.

Emanuel Parvu’s chilling and meticulously crafted drama offers a scathing indictment of a society that refuses to acknowledge differences and confront its own moral decay. At its core is the tense and deeply fractured bond between father and son, yet this masterful film lays bare divisions that cut far deeper.
