The Love That Remains
Buy ticketsWith tender, elegant playfulness, Icelandic master director Hlynur Pálmason portrays a fractured family and a marriage in ruins.
After the separation, Anna (Saga Garðarsdóttir) throws herself into her art while the children fill their days with mischief, as Magnús (Sverrir Gudnason) struggles to move on. Whenever he is off duty from his job on a fishing trawler, he longs to be with the family, fueling Anna’s growing frustration - even as she can’t help but feel sympathy for him. With striking visual flair and set against Iceland’s ever-changing landscape, the film captures the bittersweet remnants of a love fading away. As memories linger, the everyday collides with the fantastical in a work rich in warmth, darkness, humor, and cinematic storytelling.
