”I haven’t seen a film that is more Göteborgian than The Last Bid,” Monika Tunbäck-Hanson wrote in GP, referring not only to the language and the dialect, but also to the atmosphere and settings.

The Last Bid is a brazen, messy, and riotous film – made at a time characterized by crises at the docks and industrial shutdowns. We meet the couple Roger (Anders Lönnbro) and Lisett (Bodil Mårtensson), who are ecstatic about just having hit the jackpot in the football pool, but it soon turns out that the winnings aren’t worth more than few hundred crowns. Their anger and frustration towards society and their own shortcomings form a common thread in this film. In different ways, they are both drawn into the dirty business of big business. Weiron Holmberg, Roland Janson, and Sven Wollter are just a few of the actors who make The Last Bid a gutsy time capsule from Göteborg. The film has been digitally restored by the Swedish Film Institute and will be screened in cooperation with Cinemateket.
