The End
Buy ticketsTwice Oscar-nominated Joshua Oppenheimer makes his fiction film debut with an apocalyptic musical and an aesthetic masterpiece featuring a star-studded cast.
Deep within an underground bunker, a wealthy family has sealed themselves off from humanity’s demise. Surrounded by white expanses and rolling salt dunes, they’ve created a perfect high-culture fortress, indulging in escapism in its purest form. Mother (Tilda Swinton) buries memories of her family with decorative details. Father (Michael Shannon) dictates his memoirs to Son (George MacKay), taking the opportunity to rewrite his history as an oil baron before the apocalypse arrived. When a woman from the outside world suddenly appears, all their delusions are challenged, forcing them to reevaluate their understanding of reality. American-Danish documentarian Joshua Oppenheimer (The Act of Killing, 2012; The Look of Silence, GFF 2015) once again demonstrates his keen eye for contemporary issues as he delivers his take on the climate crisis.
