The Chronology of Water
Buy ticketsKristen Stewart directs the magnificent Imogen Poots, flanked by Jim Belushi, Kim Gordon, and Nick Cave’s son Earl, in an intense and uncompromising debut.
Lidia takes refuge in swimming and the weightlessness of the water to escape her deeply dysfunctional family and her father’s abuse. The freedom she finds at university then leads to an explosion of excess and addiction — but also to writing, and to a course taught by Ken Kesey (Belushi). Kristen Stewart shoots on 16mm and transforms the raw, openhearted memoir of author Lidia Yuknavitch into a bold, poetic, and edgy film that conveys equal parts beauty and pain. And proves that she is every bit as talented and sincere a director as she is an actor.
