Adrien Brody delivers the performance of his life as a Jewish star architect who starts over from the bottom in the United States in this powerful and wild post-war saga, full of bold leaps and style changes.
Brady Corbet (The Childhood of a Leader GFF 2016) does exactly what he wants, with a unique artistic vision and energy. Over the course of three and a half hours, he tells the incredible story of László Tóth, who comes from Budapest to the U.S. after surviving Nazism. There, he has the “fortune” of meeting a megalomaniac billionaire with a mother complex who hires him for a grand construction project, which, among other things, takes them on a trippy, hallucinatory journey to Italy in search of marble. It’s about the American Dream and the power of art, and in addition to Brody, Felicity Jones delivers an outstanding performance as his wife, and Guy Pearce as the billionaire Harrison Lee Van Buren Sr. This is a film made for the biggest screens – every single one of its 215 minutes is a pleasure.
