Tales of the Purple House
Buy ticketsIllustrative portrayal of a Lebanon in crisis and a world in turmoil, which shows the importance of art in times of unrest.
Lebanon is under severe strain from protests against the corrupt government, the pandemic with its increasing spread of infection is a fact, and the tragic explosion in the port of Beirut soon shocks the country. Prized Abbas Fahdel (Homeland (Iraq Year Zero), GFF 2016) lives with his wife, the artist Nour Ballouk, in a purple house in the southern parts of the country. With a view of the garden and surrounded by the couple’s cats, she stands on the porch and paints. He alternates watching movies with the film project that will result in this film. Some days they are joined by the neighboring boy, a new-found friend who came with his family from war-torn Syria. Intimate about art, love and humanity, about trying to find hope and security in the small, in an uncertain and sometimes frightening world.
