Sujo
Buy ticketsThe son of a Mexican cartel gangster tries to escape his social heritage in a socially realistic and poetic portrayal of the women and children forced to deal with the consequences of violence.
When Sicario member Josue is executed for treason, he leaves his 4-year-old son Sujo behind. The boy, whose mother died at birth, is taken care of by his stern aunt, who lives in isolation outside the village. She manages to keep him alive, away from the cartel's affairs, until he, as a teenager, gets entangled in the network by the two brothers who have been his only friends during his upbringing. Through four chapters with different focuses, we approach the big question, which finds its answer in Mexico City, to where Sujo flees: Can one escape their predestined fate? 'Sujo' is an intimate and sensually creative gem, beyond the usual violent gangster dramas we are accustomed to seeing. Extra points for the reference to Citizen Kane's 'Rosebud'."
