Sima’s Song
Buy ticketsTwo young friends find themselves on opposite sides when the Soviet Union invades Afghanistan in a film by the first female director after the fall of the mujahideen.
Suraya and Sima have been friends their whole lives. But in the new, conflict-ridden society that is emerging, one is a well-off daughter of a powerful communist, while the other is a poor Muslim who ends up in the mountains with the mujahideen movement. Roya Sadat (A Letter to the President, GFF 2018) portrays a turbulent period in a country where the Soviet Union is attempting to impose its politics but faces fierce resistance from radical Islamic groups. Sadat compellingly tells the story of a forgotten war and a country where the women's struggle was fought on many fronts, both public and private.
