One of Ukraine’s most distinctive minorities, the Kashketnyky, takes center stage in this award-winning and breathtakingly beautiful nature documentary that dazzles with its visual splendor.

Along the Dniester River live the Kashketnyky — the “wearers of head coverings” — a small, pacifist and strictly religious community akin to the Amish. For decades, nature has been their greatest adversary: floods, storms, and devastated fields. When the invasion reaches even this remote ravine, everything changes. Here too, the men are called up, and the village’s fragile cycle is disturbed by duty, anxiety, and separation. Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk (Pamfir, GFF 2023) observes without judgment; the hypnotic cinematography carries every scene. SILENT FLOOD is a rare, ravishing, and unforgettable festival gem.
