Serpent's Path
Buy ticketsKurosawa moves his drama to France but keeps the title in this extraordinary, intense remake of his own 1998 hostage drama.
Journalist Albert, who has sworn to avenge the murder of his daughter, enlists the help of teacher Sayoko in delivering justice. Together, they kidnap and torture people they believe are responsible for the murder, while their victims continuously blame other perpetrators, higher and higher up the hierarchy of a supposed cult. A few innocents are killed before Albert and Sayoko eventually uncover the surprising truth. In this reworking of the traditional yakuza film, where revenge triggers violence, there is an extraordinarily high level of psychological intensity that keeps the viewer in a grip of endless tension throughout the film.
