Schirkoa: In Lies We Trust
Buy ticketsRevolutionary sci-fi animation with elements reminiscent of both Orwell's "1984" and our not-so-distant pandemic reality, and a captivating tale of oppression and the yearning for freedom.
In Schirkoa, an almost "perfect" ultra-regulated society where citizens are forced to wear paper bags on their heads to erase their individual features, rumors begin to circulate about another place without bags. This small seed of freedom – with the unwitting help of our hero, a new and naive member of the ruling council – slowly starts to unravel the well-oiled system, and soon the revolution looms. Ishan Shukla's expansion of his acclaimed short film Schirkoa (GFF 2017) impresses with its stylish and innovative use of video game engine-driven 2D and 3D techniques. The voice ensemble, featuring names like Golshifteh Farahani, Asia Argento, Lav Diaz, and Gaspar Noé, also contributes to elevating this fantastical dystopia to great heights.
