Tensions were already high, and when the Irish national team arrives at their training camp on the Pacific island of Saipan before the World Cup in Japan and South Korea, the conflict quickly escalates. Manchester United's and Irelands hot-headed captain Keane (Éanna Hardwicke) scoffs at the sloppy arrangements, and when there's neither a proper breakfast nor footballs to train with, he snaps. A tough challenge for the under-pressure McCarthy (Steve Coogan) to handle. Saipan is a sharp and funny depiction of a national Irish trauma – and an ego clash that sparks fireworks.
