Wonderfully animated, musical journey exploring our high expectations on sex, love, and the perfect relationship, with the help of a Greek choir and a friendly neuron.
Zelma is born in Sachalin, the Soviet Empire’s easternmost outpost. Already at a young age she is convinced by fairytales and songs that love is the answer to everything, as long as she behaves like a girl should. The family eventually makes its way to Latvia and Zelma goes from childhood to adulthood. Infatuations with men from the West pull her out into the world, but the older she gets, the more she protests against norms. Already Rocks in My Pocket (GFF 2015), showed Baumane’s brilliant ability to portray a historical event with animations. But this semi-autobiographical story she takes her artistry takes a step further and includes her own personal transformation. It is humorous, deeply personal, and universal.
