Marcello Mio
Buy ticketsChiara Mastroianni puts on a fake moustache and a suit to become her father Marcello in a delightful docufiction play where French film legends play themselves.
When Chiara Mastroianni is told at an audition to "play more like" her father Marcello rather than her mother Deneuve, she loses her temper. Fed up with always being defined through her iconic parents and barely knowing who she herself is, she decides to become Marcello. Despite the surrounding confusion and irritation, she stubbornly continues with her experiment. This leads to emotional encounters, a guest appearance on a loud Italian TV show, and a reunion at a seaside resort. Christophe Honoré directs Catherine Deneuve, Melvil Poupaud, Fabrice Luchini, Benjamin Biolay, and Nicole Garcia playing (almost) themselves. It’s narcissistic and sometimes a bit silly, but mostly touching, amusing, and absolutely wonderful.
