Vibrant fantasies, Caribbean myths and a lively Brooklyn come together when seven-year-old Julián spends the summer with his Abuela and discovers that he is, in fact, a mermaid.

While his father is away on a business trip, Julián stays with his Abuela, whom he barely knows. Although everything feels new and unfamiliar, he immediately falls in love with her apartment, filled with beautiful fabrics, colours and glittering jewellery. Julián is fascinated by Abuela’s Dominican stories and easily loses himself in daydreams, which sometimes leads to quite a bit of trouble. Above all, Julián looks forward to dressing up as a mermaid for the annual Mermaid Parade. In a colourful and joyful story, the film celebrates the freedom to be who you are.
