But in the vibrant bustle of the nights, he gets to know Diára and Gui, and friendships that are as ambiguous as they are decisive begin to take shape. Pedro Pinho skillfully weaves together and challenges the complex postcolonial and capitalist forces that shape the existence Sergio and his newfound friends find themselves in, taking us on a life-altering and seductive journey set against the vast landscapes of Guinea-Bissau.

On Sunday, January 25, we will screen a version that is two hours longer — a deepened and visionary expansion of the film’s themes and characters, receiving its international premiere at the festival. This screening includes a 15-minute intermission.
