Great Absence
Buy ticketsThe loose threads of life are woven together when a young actor reunites with his father in poignant Japanese jewel.
At a certain point in life, the past that one believed to be forgotten and lost can resurface. That's the moment Takashi (Mirai Moriyama) finds himself in when he receives an unexpected phone call from a police station in northern Japan. Something alarming has happened to his father, Yohji (Tatsuya Fuji), who left the family 20 years ago. But when Takashi arrives at his house, he discovers there's more to the situation. His father seems to have lost touch with reality, and his second wife is missing. One of Japan's new great talents, Kei Chika-ura, crafts astonishingly skillful and tender cinematic art about absence and reconciliation, wrapped in the fading spiral of memory.
