Eras of Gothenburg

Church construction, icebreaking in the archipelago, and films from Victor Hasselblad’s private collection as we once again look back at old Gothenburg.

In a rare feature film from 1916, we follow the Mannheimer family as they humorously squabble over who should host the New Year’s celebration. The programme also includes scenes from peace celebrations at Götaplatsen and the construction of Johanneberg Church and Guldheden Church. The screening concludes with the award-winning commercial Reflections of Life (1970), which helped launch the new Hasselblad camera. Presented in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg, the Gothenburg City Museum, the National Archives in Gothenburg, the National Library of Sweden, and the Swedish Film Institute.
