Exceptionally gifted circus troop takes up the battle against the Nazis in refreshingly original Italian superhero adventure, multiply awarded at Venice.
Rome, 1943, and our heroes in the little circus company fear for their lives when the Nazis take the city. Its the electric Matilde, the insect-tamer Cencio, the magnetic man Mario, the incredibly powerful and hairy Fulvio, and the ringmaster and magician Israel. But before they have time to flee, Israel disappears and the other four are forced to go out on a perilous adventure to find him. Standing in their way is Franz, a twelve-fingered piano-playing German officer with the ability to see into the future, and who is now hunting for the most powerful circus “freaks” with whose help he is convinced he can change history. Freaks Out offers a wonderful mix of fantasy and war film, and an exuberant adventure that freely borrows from Fellini as well as Marvel.
