First Snow of Summer
Buy ticketsGreat love attempts to conquer all in quirky fairytale-like drama with touches of Amélie of Montmartre’s charm, Delicatessen’s absurdity, and Wes Anderson’s aesthetics.
Alexander grows up with his grandmother after his father moves down into the underworld to be as close as possible to Alexander’s dead mother. His grandmother teaches him to love old cowboy films but to avoid real love. When Alexander gets older, he wants to spend time with his father – not just when they meet up to work on the huge mural to the memory of his mother – and he gets a job in the subway’s lost and found office. One day he sees an enchanting young woman in the hat shop opposite him and the promise to never fall in love suddenly becomes difficult to keep. Chris Raiber’s debut is an impressively sure-footed, shimmeringly bittersweet, and playful celebration of love and the belief that it can move mountains – or at least speed up seasons.
