Stylish, sensual, and much-discussed – Golden Lion winner Audrey Diwan reinvents the erotic classic, following modern-day Emmanuelle’s quest to rediscover lost pleasure in Hong Kong.

Audrey Diwan builds on her Venice-winning Happening (GFF 2021) with a bold reimagining of Emmanuelle Arsan’s iconic literary heroine – the inspiration behind the cult 1974 film Emmanuelle, which made Sylvia Kristel a symbol of sexual liberation.

Now portrayed with elegance and complexity by Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire), the titular character checks into a luxury hotel in Hong Kong for work. Outside her professional duties, she embarks on a sensual and deeply personal journey with both men and women, longing to reignite lost pleasure. Yet the man who intrigues her most remains just out of reach.

Also starring Naomi Watts, Jamie Campbell Bower and Will Sharpe, this is a bold and sensual reimagining of a timeless classic.
