An honest and hopeful contemporary portrait of an explosive musical rebellion, where young Irish voices blend tradition with a punk-tinged longing for the future.

In Celtic Utopia, Dennis Harvey and Lars Lovén follow a generation that refuses to let history solidify, as a new Ireland takes shape—loud, hopeful, and allergic to romanticized narratives. The directors sketch a portrait of a country wrestling with heritage and belief in the future, woven together through folk music as well as hip-hop and punk. The music carries stories of colonialism, identity, and hope. Through musical encounters and spontaneous conversations, a nation emerges that is both grieving and blossoming. A haunting and heart-pounding documentary about culture as resistance.
