Love, sex and relationships are portrayed in this visionary American indie film steeped in a rarely seen mixture of utopia and social realism.

A trans and queer commune in Brooklyn is the home of four youths whose fight to retain their utopian existence in a polarized society becomes increasingly heavy. Tona, Franz, Erika and Paul talk about politics, drink coffee, have sex and protest. All while their lives seem to weave together with Schernikau’s queer novella “So Schön” into a dreamlike meta-theatrical hybrid where the beautiful is mixed with the dirty; activism with daily life; and utopia with social realism. So Pretty is a love story for the visionaries of our time. “Everywhere the youth are, we should be. In the bars, in the workplaces, and offices, in the concerts and cinemas. We should make sure the movement is everywhere.”
