Broken Voices
Buy ticketsCzech #MeToo drama filled with song, dense girlhood, imagery and moods reminiscent of Peter Weir and Sofia Coppola.
Czechoslovakia, early 1990s. Two singing teenage sisters share the same goal: to qualify for the elite group in the choir that is selected for the annual camp at a ski resort and the subsequent tour to the United States. Director Ondřej Provazník was inspired by a real case where a choir leader used his position of power to exploit numerous girls, and has then filled his story with an intense portrayal of girlhood, stunning settings and atmospheres that evoke both Peter Weir’s classic Picnic at Hanging Rock and the worlds of Sofia Coppola.
