Belleville Baby
Buy ticketsDocumentary filmmaker Mia Engberg’s work often has an exploratory character. Belleville Baby is a poetic rendering of a personal story.
Mia’s ex-boyfriend Vincent gets in touch after having been missing for ten years. He has been in prison and asks Mia for help to remember their time together. The film weaves together recorded telephone conversations with video images from the couple’s time together, still images from now and then and newly filmed sequences. The atmospheric and exciting whole demonstrates how memories are completely subjective. The question is whether it is at all possible to have a close relationship without using the other person for one’s own purposes.
Belleville Baby is the first standalone film in the Belleville trilogy and will be screened before Mia Engberg’s Directors Talk on Sunday, January 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Bio Roy.
