As the Tide Comes In
Buy ticketsThe storm is gathering, and a farmer is seeking a wife to share a solitary island life within a magnificent documentary about the consequences of climate change on a Danish island.
On the small island of Mandø, off the western coast of Jutland, there is a unique rhythm. It may be Denmark's most inaccessible island, reachable only at low tide. Besides depopulation, its vulnerable location is especially sensitive to the advance of climate change. What was once a lively farming community is now home to only 27 people. One of them is Gregers, the island's youngest resident and the last farmer, who seeks to end his loneliness through a popular reality series for farmers. He does his best to save what he can of the family farm when politicians' climate measures falter. The apocalyptic atmosphere simmers beneath the stormy surface in this epic and beautifully depicted portrayal of a threatened island community.
