Apolonia, Apolonia
Buy ticketsAward-winning documentary that follows the aspiring artist Apolonia Sokol for thirteen years in her quest to establish herself on the international art scene.
Documentary filmmaker Lea Glob’s (Venus, GFF 2017) fascination with Apolonia is immediate. The unassuming and charismatic Apolonia never fears the camera, but on the contrary invites Lea to film her bohemian existence in Paris. Among other artists and political activists, including Oksana Shachko of the feminist action group Femen, Apolonia’s creativity thrives. After graduating, Apolonia must find her own way in an often male-dominated and tough-skinned art world. But whether they lead her into the hands of a controversial art collector in Los Angeles or to a gallery in Istanbul, Lea follows in her footsteps. Their close relationship is central to the documentary, which was awarded the main prize at the world’s largest documentary film festival in Amsterdam last autumn.
