Lost innocence and vast seascapes in a visually striking World War II drama set on the island of Amrum in the Wadden Sea.

As the war draws to a close, twelve-year-old Nanning’s mother - a convinced Nazi sympathiser - sinks into depression. When she voices a craving for white bread and honey, Nanning takes it upon himself to obtain the scarce delicacies. During his search, he encounters the island’s inhabitants, who, as Nazi power begins to wane, dare to express their opinions more openly. Soon, secrets are revealed that challenge Nanning’s understanding of the world - and, not least, his own family. Through a child’s perspective, Fatih Akin portrays a society shaped by war, yet slowly emerging from the grip of the brutal Nazi regime.
